General Hospital Fan Club Weekend 2013- Part 4

Sunday was probably the busiest of days for me, and the day that I felt was most dedicated to celebrating 50 years of GH. Starting off the morning was Breakfast with Genie Francis. This was Genie’s first event and while added on fairly late in the game, it sold out, and I believe was the first event to do so. I felt bad, her event overlapped Haley Pullos’ annual event, and while usually very popular, it took a huge hit in attendance. I had foolishly opted to sleep in when Genie appeared at our local Sears back in 2006, so for me, meeting her was a longtime coming. Her husband, Jonathan Frakes, also popped in towards the end to give her a ride home. This event was run by Sheri Evans of soapstarfanevents.com.

Genie Francis (Laura Spencer Baldwin) ~ I think when it comes to celebrating 50 years, Genie's event stood true to the fact. Having been there on and off since '76, she certainly covered all of the basics and key players during her Q&A.

To mark the 50th Anniversary, the highly popular Past Cast Reunion returned. Last held for the 45th Anniversary, this event included stars from GH, Port Charles, & Night Shift. Attending stars included Rachel Ames (Audrey), Sam Behrens (Jake), Angel Boris Reed (Angel), Tamara Braun (Carly), Brianna Brown (Lisa), Susan Brown (Gail), Christine Carlo (Leticia), Dylan Cash (Michael), Maree Cheatham (Charlene), Michael Cole (Harlan), Michael Dietz (Joe), Josh Duhon (Logan), Scott Egan (Johnny), Kiko Ellsworth (Stan/Jamal) Brian Gaskill (Rafe), Michael Gregory (Rick), Adam Grimes (Kyle), Peter Hansen (Lee), Vanita Harbour (Dara), Rick Hearst (Ric), Gerald Hopkins (AJ), Wally Kurth (Ned), Edie Lehmann Boddicker (Katherine), Lindze Letherman (Georgie), Jen Lilley (Maxie), Ronnie Marmo (Ronnie), Lilly Melgar (Lily), Rick Moses (Hutch), Hugo Napier (Larry), Cynthia Preston (Faith), John Reilly (Sean), Cheryl Richardson Smith (Jenny), Chris Robinson (Rick), Rebecca Staab (Elizabeth), Julian Stone (Jerry), Gregory Zarian (Julius), & Jacklyn Zeman (Bobbie). One of the nice things about this event was that my friend Wayne came along with his friend Michael Cole, so I got to see him for a change.

Prior to the start of the event, one of the ladies at my table returned to say Cynthia Preston was outside telling security that someone was feeling faint. Knowing that Ames, Brown, and Hansen were all present, this had me a little worried, so I went to go check things out. The excitement was over a fan throwing up in the bathroom allocated for the stars’ use. At this point, Peter too had ventured out of the green room to find out what was going on. He remarked at how cool and quiet the lobby area was. “I’m 91 and it’s loud!!!” He ushered for Rachel and Susan to join him. Jim Warren spotted me watching this transpire and asked me to look after them until the event got underway. I was honored. I quick texted Mom and she came out with the camera to capture this historic shot, one I later heard called “the best pic of the FCW.” This trio of legends would not be staying for the meet and greet, so this was the only chance to see them. I remained with them until the rest of the cast came out for the event to start.

Longtime stars Rachel Ames (Audrey Hardy), Susan Brown (Dr. Gail Baldwin), & Peter Hansen (Lee Baldwin) did not stay long, but I managed to get this picture before the event began.

Rachel Ames (Audrey Hardy), Susan Brown (Dr. Gail Baldwin), and Peter Hansen (Lee Baldwin) ~ It doesn’t matter that these stars came before my time. They laid the groundwork for the show that we have all come to know and love, and if it was not for them, who’s to say GH would have even turned 50?

The meet and greet for this event was just as crazy as Saturday’s main event. Lines for Hearst, Kurth, Letherman, Reilly, and Zeman stretched across the ballroom. Luckily, Mom and I tagged team, and we were able to knock out quite a number of stars. Not everybody, but we put in a good dent.

Lindze Letherman (Georgie Jones) ~ Lindze made that fatal error of saying she had to be at work by 4, so her line grew the fastest. Luckily, her signing table was right next to where my seat was, so I was second in line.

Hugo Napier (Lord Larry Ashton) ~ Hugo was sort of like the roaming ambassador. He said he didn't do sitting very well, so he walked around and met the fans while they stood in other lines.

Maree Cheatham (Charlene Simpson) ~ Lucy's wacky aunt was just as fun loving in person as onscreen. Easily one of the fan favorites, and favorites among the cast.

Gerald Hopkins (AJ Quartermaine) ~ Gerald was part of my favorite family, so I just gotta love him. Plus, he had free 8x10s. Score.

Cheryl Richardson Smith (Jenny Eckert Hornsby) ~ Cheryl was a sweetheart, and while I know the Eckerts never quite hit it off with the fans, Cheryl hit it off with me.

Rebecca Staab (Elizabeth Barrington) ~ I had gotten a photo with Rebecca at Saturday's Main Event, but today she had 8x10s, so I got one of those and another photo.

Wally Kurth (Ned Ashton) ~ Wally, who hosted the event, was just so grateful to be there. He read messages from costars unable to attend, and gleamed when I had him sign a Quartermaine photo. "So many memories on that set...," he said voice trailing off.

Rick Moses (Jefferson Smith 'Hutch' Hutchins) ~ Ok, Rick is probably the cast member who has changed the most since his GH days, but he was a cool guy. Quiet, but very appreciative.

Gregory Zarian (Julius) ~ The man did one show and could not have been more popular with the ladies. They were crawling all over him, and he seemingly loved it.

Scott Egan (Johnny O'Brien) ~ Talk about a small world and tight-knit GH community, Scott is Angel's son's soccer coach.

Adam Grimes (Dr. Kyle Julian) ~ Adam was the sole representative from Night Shift, so while he may have felt a bit left out, he never let on. Had a great relationship with the fans.

Edie Lehmann (Katherine Delafield) ~ I think Edie may have been drinking a little bit, but she was having so much fun and loved chatting with the fans, it was hard to leave her.

John Reilly (Sean Donely) ~ I think by the time I made my way over to him, this former stalwart was starting to get worn out, but always the gentleman, John stuck it out well past closing time.

Chris Robinson (Dr. Rick Webber) ~ His predecessor Michael Gregory had departed by the time I made it over to their table, but it gave me more time to chat with Chris who had cleaned out his closet and was selling much of his GH memorabilia.

Sam Behrens (Jake Meyer) ~ Sam took his rightful place next to Jacklyn Zeman, representing the ex-husbands of Bobbie Spencer.

Michael Cole (Harlan Barrett) ~ Michael came along with my buddy Wayne, so I got to meet him outside before the event. Ever popular with attendees for his role on The Mod Squad, Michael had various photos available for the fans to take.

Jacklyn Zeman (Bobbie Spencer) ~ Paging Nurse Bobbie Spencer! This is my favorite shot of Jackie and I over the years. She's an angel, and I call her my Bergen County girl.

Immediately following the Past Cast event, I escorted Jackie Zeman over to an event hosted by Kin Shriner, one I was looking most forward to. The guy’s a legend. I had heard many negative stories about Kin, but he has always been very good to me. His event was filled with special guests and great stories. Photographer Jim Warren ran this event. In addition to Jackie, Michael Cole and Josh Duhon also came in to surprise Kin. Josh stuck around for the meet & greet, so I grabbed a signed photo, as I had passed up a autograph from him on Thursday evening.

Kin Shriner (Scott Baldwin) ~ The man, the myth, the legend. While he's not always bearing a smile, Kin loves regaling the fans with stories from his 35+ years associated with the show.

As soon as Kin’s event was over, I headed over to an event hosted by Tyler Christopher. Originally, I had no intention of going to this event, but when Stephen Nichols was announced as the special guest the morning of, I quickly bought a ticket. I made to this event in time for autographs & pictures. I was perfectly fine with missing the Q&A because I’ve never really found Tyler’s events to be particularly interesting. This was another event run by Sheri Evans.

Tyler Christopher (Nikolas Cassadine) ~ It's been years, and I've never gotten a photo with Tyler that I like. Oh well, maybe next year.

Stephen Nichols (Stefan Cassadine) ~ This guy is freaking legend. He's Patch! It was great to meet Stephen, even when he's 85, he'll still have the potential to be a leading man.

There were a lot of other events on Sunday. Bradford Anderson & Brandon Barash’s event overlapped with Kin’s and Tyler’s. Then later on, there was a Girls Night In hosted by Teresa Castillo and Emily Wilson. And also an intimate concert with Scott Reeves dubbed Nashville Nights. After Tyler’s, I witnessed a bus crash in front of the hotel, something that would occur at a GH function, and then had a nice dinner down the road at Jerry’s. And I believe I actually got a good sleep. Only one more day…
