Just got back from the semi-annual Chiller Theatre Expo, held at the Sheraton Parsippany Hotel in NJ. This year’s show featured several cast reunions, but the ones I looked forward to most were the ones for Jaws and A Christmas Story. I’ve attended all but one Chiller show since 2009, and I think that this was the only time I came home with money still in my wallet. Many of the guests charged more reasonable and economic friendly prices than in the past.
The first guest I met was Gilbert Gottfried, the legendary stand-up comedian & voice of Iago in Disney’s Aladdin.
Next up was Robert Hays, known to may for his role of Ted Striker in Airplane! and Airplane II: The Sequel. My generation knows Robert as the stepfather, Bob, in the Homeward Bound movies.
Easy Rider star Peter Fonda, who I got an autograph from at my first Chiller back in 2009, returned this year and was a big chatterbox. Not only did we talk about hotels, but Peter also told me all the gory details about his discovery of a body in a parked car back in 2011.
I then headed into the room where the Jaws reunion & prop museum was located. Attending the reunion was Roger Kastel (Poster Artist), Joe Alves (Production Designer), Carl Gottlieb (‘Ben Meadows’ & Screenwriter), Jeffrey Kramer (Deputy Hendricks), & Susan Backlinie (Chrissie Watkins). This is where I spent a majority of my money. I had all 5 sign an 11×17 movie poster, got 8x10s from Gottlieb, Kramer, & Backlinie, and also had Gottlieb sign my copy of his book, The Jaws Log.
I then went in to meet Catherine Bach, known for her role of Daisy Dukes on The Dukes of Hazzard, and currently playing Anita Lawson on The Young & the Restless. While I felt that her prices were a bit steep, I bit the bullet and got an autograph & photo with her.
Julie Dawn Cole, known for her role of Veruca Salt in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, is another guest who I had previously met at a past Chiller. This time around, I had Julie sign my copy of her book, I Want It Now!
I then went into the room where the four boys, now men, from A Christmas Story were. Scott Schwartz’s mom, who attends most if not every Chiller, was in charge of this room and running a tight ship. In attendance were Zack Ward (Scut Farkus), Yano Anaya (Grover Dill), Ian Petrella (Randy Parker), & Scott Schwartz (Flick). I had all four guys sign an 11×17 movie poster.
I ended the night by having Kathy Garver sign a Family Affair 8×10, previously signed by Johnny Whitaker. Kathy charged a whopping $10 and was one of the most honest celebrities that I have ever met at one of these.
Wow, it’s hard to believe that this amazing event was already nearly a year ago. 35 years ago this week, John Carpenter’s Halloween terrified audiences with the deranged Michael Myers stalking Laurie Strode through the streets of Haddonfield, all while being pursued by Dr. Loomis. On November 16-18, HorrorHound Weekend paid tribute to this iconic slasher film with a reunion of the original cast, as well as many of the stars from its later sequels. What made the event just as iconic as the film itself is that this was the first and only autograph convention appearance of Jamie Lee Curtis. Take a walk down the streets of Haddonfield and relive this iconic film & unforgettable weekend.

On Sunday, October 20, I took a ride down to Uncle Vinnie’s Comedy Club in Pt. Pleasant, a frequent stop for the General Hospital cast members. Today’s event featured Kelly Sullivan, who just up until recently portrayed Connie Falconeri, or if you’d prefer to call her Kate Howard, that’s fine as well. This was Kelly’s third trip to Pt. Pleasant, and her first time going solo. Teresa Castillo (Sabrina) was supposed to attend, but fell ill due to food poisoning and was unable to make the flight on Friday. After a fun filled Q&A, Kelly began posing for pictures & signing autographs. Thanks again to Dino from UV’s and to Linda & Paula at Coastal Entertainment for another great event as usual.
