The Bold and the Beautiful Pop Up Fan Event
Still winding down from the great time that I had on September 14th at the inaugural Bold and the Beautiful Pop Up Fan Event at the New York Marriott Marquis. I’m going to start by saying that this was one of the best events I have ever been to, words that I am sure will be repeated throughout this post. It was my first B&B event and the first time meeting five out of the six stars. Cast members in attendance were Ashleigh Brewer (Ivy), Pierson Fode (Thomas), Linsey Godfrey (Caroline), Thorsten Kaye (Ridge), John McCook (Eric), and Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy). Last Friday, it was announced that the event would act as a mock wedding reception for characters Caroline Spencer and Ridge Forrester, whose onscreen nuptials aired during the event. And let me tell you, the series pulled out all the stops putting this event together. It was like attending a real wedding.
I’ll try my best to give an accurate chronological order of the day’s events. As we checked in at the registration table, we were given swag bags filled with a souvenir program, a B&B novel, a t-shirt, luggage tag, pocket mirror and hair brush, notepad, and stress beanie. John McCook then arrived and greeted the fans as we made our way into the ballroom. I want to say there were maybe 15 tables of 10 set up, three of which were reserved for the families and press. At each place setting, fans found another gift- a framed Ridge & Caroline wedding portrait along with some candies.
McCook got everyone warmed up and visited with each table before introducing his costars, Fode, Brewer, and Wood. The lights were then dimmed and the wedding episode was screened without commercials. Then the longstanding wedding traditions kicked off when Godfrey & Kaye arrived. Photographs, a toast by the father of the groom, the cutting of the cake, first dance, and bouquet toss.
As the reception came to an end, the cast was moved into the adjoining ballroom for the meet and greet session. Before moving on, I went over to McCook’s wife, actress Laurette Spang-McCook. Best known for her role of Cassiopeia in Battlestar Galactica, Spang graciously posed for a photo and regaled me of tales from the set of Airport 1975.
There were three lines set up for the meet & greet- McCook & Wood, Godfrey & Kaye, and Brewer & Fode. All moved extremely fast, the fans were all respectful of each other, and the actors could not have been better. They signed everything you dropped in front of them and posed for as many photos as you asked for. I took advantage of this and took a lot more posed photos of the actors than I usually do. Having never done a B&B event before, I didn’t know what to expect in the line of having photos, so I brought along some 8x10s from home, and it’s a good thing I did as they didn’t have any. I also had the program signed.
Again, it was a great event, the most stress-free I’ve ever attended. It was made clear from the beginning that the actors would not leave until everyone got their autographs and photos. Hearing that just makes it so much easier on us fans. It also helped to our advantage that the actors were staying at the hotel and didn’t have cars to their disposal like the GH cast does when I attend their events. I thanked B&B’s supervising producer, Casey Kasprzyk, and the B&B publicity team numerous times for the opportunity to attend and I hope to see the cast return to the area again real soon.
